Well today was a Monday and it was also President's Day. Curtis couldn't get much business done due to the holiday so we had a nice day hanging out together. I've been wanting to try and see all the Oscar Nominees and am very, VERY behind on that so Curtis (being the nice guy that he is) decided to help me catch up. So, we went to see the movie "Up in the Air" in the early afternoon. It was really, really good! I really loved it! Well written, well directed and well acted! I liked the slightly ambiguous ending as well. Then we went home and Curtis went to teach one of his acting classes and I took Frankie for a long walk. Then, after his class we went to see "Avatar" in Imax 3D. I have been conflicted about this movie for quite some time because I had heard that the story wasn't that great but that the 3D and the special effects were AMAZING. I also had listened to about 18 podcasts from Slash Film (/film.com) about this movie as well as "Up In The Air" so, I had heard all kinds of discussions on both of them and interviews with directors and also knew some spoilers. So, I knew what people had been saying about them both good and bad. I think that the guys at /film were right when they said that you really had to see "Avatar" in Imax 3D to fully appreciate it otherwise it was kind of a waste of time. But I have to admit I was impressed and I liked it. It made me cry though.
So, yeah, if you haven't seen either of these movies I highly recommend that you do. If there isn't an IMAX theater near you then at least try and see "Avatar" in 3D. It's apparently much better that way.
