04-04-10 through 04-09-10

Sorry to be catching up in groups but man the last couple of weeks have been crazy busy! I've been really productive and lots of things have happened but unfortunately it's affected my ability to blog everyday! But I plan to be better at that moving forward!

So, on April 4th we celebrated Easter with my family. We had a great day of more food that included my mom's famous baked macaroni and cheese (a Southern Favorite), some really good salad, wonderful greenbeans and about a million desserts! There was also a ham for people who eat ham. But I don't. And after we ate we did an egg hunt with my nieces and then watched movies and played Rock Band until everyone had to go home. Oh and did I mention the earthquake? There was a 7.2 earthquake in Baja California right after we ate! It wasn't as strong here but it was still a pretty big earthquake! We felt it for a long time! It was long and changed direction a few times! It was kind of a rolling earthquake here not really a shaking one. Everyone here was fine though and there wasn't any damage of anything.

On Monday April 5th I caught up on some chores and laundry. I also cleaned out my closet a bit and brought out my summer clothes. They all needed to be washed since they'd been stored away so there was a lot of laundry. It was a catch up day in general so there isn't much else to report. I did the usual, looked for jobs, looked at wedding stuff, caught up on emails and such and did some chores. My photo is of some of my summer dresses hang drying after being washed.

On Tuesday April 6th I went with Karen and Henry to downtown LA to go to the flower an toy district. We were looking at flowers for the wedding and getting some toy decorations for Henry's upcoming birthday party! I hadn't ever really been down there other than just driving through and it was an interesting experience for me. Kind of scary and yet not. We passed a lot of homeless people since the flower market and toy district are located somewhat unfortunately close to skid row. Kind of a weird dichotomy there. Homeless people make me sad and it is weird to see so many people with nothing but the shirts on their backs while shopping for frivolous things like flowers and toys. We also passed two bodies on stretchers which was kind of freaky. There were also a couple of runaway looking teens who may or may not have been hookers as well. Sad. And kinda scary. Then after we looked at the pretty flowers and the fun toys we went to Phillipe's for an early lunch. Phillipe's is an LA Landmark! It's apparently famous for it's French Dips. But that's not what I had. Well, we had wanted breakfast but we had a minor diversion looking for keys we thought were lost so it took a while and by the time we found them it was lunch time there. Then we went home and I met up with Curtis to go get him signed up on my gym membership so we can be workout buddies! Yay! It was a long day but a good one!

Wednesday April 7th- Today we met with the trainer for our fitness assessment. I was weighed and had my body fat calculated. None of this was fun. My body fat is a bit higher than I would like. But the trainer was a cool guy and he had no intention of telling me I had to be skinny. In fact he said I should only lose a few pounds and that with working out again I would gain muscle and burn some fat and so my weight didn't have to change much to change my body composition. That was nice. Then Curtis joined us and the trainer proceeded to torture us. It was a good workout but man we are out of shape. I did better than Curtis since I have still been exercising a bit and he hadn't been in a long time. But still, it was much more than my lazy self has grown accustomed to. We were both very sore within minutes of leaving the gym. Especially my quads. So, my photo is of my very, very sore quads later that night. :)

Thursday April 8th~ Curtis and I were so sore we could barely move. Damn trainer.
;-) Today I watched Henry for a bit for Karen while she was getting her hair done and her hubby Mark worked on some art jobs he had due. Henry and I went for a nice long walk around their neighborhood and then checked out Sprouts Market. I really liked Sprouts! They have some cool stuff and pretty good prices! I hadn't brought my wallet with me though so I headed home with Henry empty handed. Then I gave him some lunch and then Karen came home so we walked back to Sprouts. I got some goodies to take home and then headed home. Later Curtis and I went to the gym to do a light workout. Then I walked Frankie. I was pretty pooped by the end of the day! And by that night all you could hear around my house was me and Curtis saying "Ow" everytime we had to sit down or bend down to get something. It was actually pretty funny. The photo of the day is of Henry in his stroller. :)

Friday April 9th~ I was still sore but didn't feel the need to say "ow" as much today. Yay! I started the day with an early morning at home workout since I knew I'd be busy today and wouldn't make it to the gym. We went to a fancy schmancy bridal salon's semi annual sample sale! Julie and Karen came with me. It was fun! If not a little mortifying since they bring everyone into a room with the bridal consultant and then make the bride strip down in front of everyone. I don't really mind being in my underwear, but stripping out of jeans and stuff while everyone else in the room is just sitting there is weird. I read to always wear nude colored underwear to try on bridal gowns so I did. But the only nude colored undies I have are also pretty sheer. So.... yeah.... awkward. To complicate matters the bridal consultant said that she wants to write a book about her years working there. Great. Now I'll be in the chapter about brides who wear inappropriate underwear to try on bridal dresses. Anyway, the dresses there were stunningly beautiful and fancy. I'd post photos but because it was a "fancy" upscale place they didn't allow photos to be taken of the dresses until I decided on one. I find that a little silly myself, but whatever. But my friend Julie did take this photo of me in one of the veils.

The sample sale was also misleading. It was not really a sale at all. All the dresses were about $1500 at least. And they were only $100 off. They used to do real sample sales where they sold the sample dresses for REALLY cheap. I think they now only say they are having sample sales to entice people to come in and try on dresses. They had dresses there that were $20,000! I can't even imagine spending that kind of money on a dress! Even if I had a lot of money to spend... I mean... wow. But it was nice to try on dresses in the fancy salon even if I didn't end up finding my dress there. After we left there we decided to head over to David's Bridal again to see what we might find. As it turns out, we found THE dress for me. And so I bought it. And it was under $500. Yay me! I also bought my veil.
My photo is of me Julie and Karen at the fancy salon! Henry was also there!

I ended the day taking Frankie for a walk and then hanging out with Curtis. :)
